Spectacular lagoon landscape

The Playa de los Charcos in the north-west of Fuerteventura, not far from the Faro de Tostón near El Cotillo, impresses with a fascinating lagoon landscape of natural pools and shallow, turquoise-coloured water.

Created by the interplay of volcanic rock and the tides, a special place of tranquillity and unspoilt nature unfolds here. The gently sheltered sea pools offer those seeking relaxation as well as nature lovers an ideal retreat - far away from the hustle and bustle, in the midst of the island's powerful natural backdrop.

The lagoons comprise various pools that offer excellent conditions for swimming and snorkelling at high tide. It is therefore worth paying attention to the tides, as some of the pools dry out at low tide, which is ideal for exploring.

Locals and visitors alike appreciate the clear, turquoise-coloured water and the tranquil, unspoilt coastal landscape. On windy days, kitesurfers use the sheltered areas of the lagoons, while isolated corralitos (stone circles) provide additional protection from the wind and allow for a relaxed swimming experience.

The volcanic rocks and the expansive view of the lighthouse create a unique backdrop, especially at sunset.
