Hidden village full of rural traditions

IMG_4242guisguey_result

Guisguey is a small, remote village in the north-east of Fuerteventura, nestled in a picturesque valley. The village is known for its traditional Canarian houses made of natural stone, which are surrounded by well-tended gardens and exude an authentic charm.

At the entrance to the village is an impressive sculpture of a woman with a plough and two donkeys - a tribute to the women who played an important role in the island's agricultural history.

In front of the Ermita de San Pedro church there is also a statue of a goatherd with his goats and dog, reflecting the village's rural past and simple life.

The area surrounding Guisguey also invites you to hike through the volcanic landscape and offers unique views across the island. The nearby Mirador de Guisguey offers sweeping views over the village.

The fields around Guisguey are partly laid out as so-called „gavias“ - terraced areas that are under water when it rains and thus illustrate the traditional water management on the island.
