Historically significant place surrounded by volcanic landscapes

La Oliva, once the seat of Fuerteventura's military governors and now the administrative centre of the region of the same name, is a quiet place in the north of the island, rich in history and culture.

The historic centre is dominated by the Casa de los Coroneles, an impressive 18th century mansion that reflects the power and influence of the rulers of the time.

This important building once served as the residence of the colonial rulers and is one of the most important historical buildings on the island. It is currently undergoing extensive refurbishment in order to preserve its cultural and architectural value for future generations.

In the centre of La Oliva is the imposing Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de Candelaria with its striking bell tower made of dark volcanic rock, which once also served as a watchtower.

Every Tuesday and Friday, La Oliva hosts a traditional market, the Mercado de las Tradiciones, where visitors can discover local products and handicrafts. The town is also an ideal starting point for exploring the surrounding villages and volcanic landscapes.
