Flowering time of the grain

Traditional village in the north

Villaverde is a traditional village located in the centre of the north of the island. It is known for its excellent gastronomy, as well as the well-preserved Molinos de Villaverde, which provide an insight into the island's historical agriculture. These mills once processed the region's grain and are an important testimony to the region's agricultural tradition.

The village is surrounded by a barren but impressive volcanic landscape and a particular highlight is the La Arena volcano with its picturesque circular trail offering spectacular panoramic views over the north of the island. However, during the bird nesting season from February to July, access is restricted to ensure the protection of the animals.

Villaverde is considered one of the coolest places on the island, as it is slightly higher up and the temperatures here are often noticeably lower than in the coastal areas.

Particularly noteworthy is the Montaña Escanfraga, a massive volcano that rises in the centre of Villaverde. At an altitude of 649 metres, the summit offers the remains of old fields with fertile soil that was once used for agriculture. Villaverde is therefore a valuable destination for discovering the agricultural history and impressive nature of Fuerteventura.
