Capital city between modernity and tradition
Puerto del Rosario, the capital of Fuerteventura, is the economic and administrative centre of the island. It combines modern facilities with cultural sights and gives visitors an authentic impression of everyday life in Fuerteventura's largest city.
One highlight is the Casa Museo Miguel de Unamuno, where the famous Spanish writer was housed during his five-month exile on Fuerteventura in 1924 and which is now open to the public as a museum.
Along the coastal promenade, the Avenida Marítima, visitors can admire a series of sculptures that are part of the „Sculpture Park“, an open-air gallery spread throughout the city.
Puerto del Rosario is also a popular shopping destination with the large Las Rotondas shopping centre, which houses a variety of shops and restaurants. In addition, the Mercado Agrícola de la Biosfera is held every Saturday, offering fresh local produce such as fruit, vegetables, cheese and artisan products.
The city has several beaches, including Playa de los Pozos, also known as „Playa Chica“, a small, sheltered city beach that is ideal for families.
Puerto del Rosario is also home to the island's most important harbour, which serves as a hub for freight and cruise traffic, as well as Fuerteventura's international airport, which is located just outside and connects the island with many European cities.
