The Montaña de Tindaya is a „sacred“ mountain in the north-west of the island, which was worshipped by the indigenous people, the „Majos“. It consists of the rare volcanic rock trachyte, which has been given a smooth, almost polished surface by erosion.

The more than 300 petroglyphs in the form of footprints on the mountain bear witness to its cultural significance for the indigenous people of the time and, according to current research, are
possibly astronomically orientated in order to observe celestial phenomena.
