The hike through the Barranco de las Peñitas is one of the most beautiful and varied routes on Fuerteventura.

The route begins below the village of Vega de Río Palmas and leads through the lush Barranco de las Peñitas gorge, one of the few green oases on the island. The ravine itself is known for its striking rock formations, steep walls and dense vegetation, which is particularly striking after rainfall.

The hiking trail first runs through the valley along an old stream, which, depending on the weather conditions, carries water and enlivens the landscape. A particular highlight is the historic dam, consisting of an old dam wall and a reservoir overgrown with trees and shrubs.

Further along the route, you will come across the Ermita de Nuestra Señora de la Peña, a small chapel dedicated to the island's patron saint and picturesquely situated in the middle of the gorge. The hike leads through rocky terrain and offers spectacular views of the surrounding vegetation and the unique rock formations.
