Fuerteventura's youngest volcanic landscape

IMG_2399la arena

The hike around the La Arena volcano leads through one of the most fascinating volcanic landscapes on Fuerteventura and offers insights into the geologically youngest formations on the island, which are around 10,000 years old.

The circular trail starts on the edge of Villaverde and stretches for around 6 kilometres. The route leads through impressive lava fields and volcanic rock formations created by the last eruption of the volcano.

The volcano has three craters, which together form a varied landscape. Each crater is slightly different in shape and depth, which makes the whole area a special experience for hikers.

The route is relatively easy and can either be started with the ascent to the crater rim or completed as a circular route around the volcano. During the ascent, hikers are rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of the north of the island, including the volcanoes of Lajares and the north-west coastline.

The circular route along the crater rim provides a unique perspective of the entire volcanic region and makes this hike a special experience.
