Endless beaches and lively promenades
Morro Jable is a lively holiday resort in the south of Fuerteventura, stretching along the south-east coast of the Jandía peninsula. The former fishing village has developed into a popular holiday destination known for its long, fine sandy beaches and clear, turquoise-coloured water.
The famous Playa del Matorral stretches for kilometres along the coast and offers ideal conditions for sunbathing and swimming. The promenade of Morro Jable is located further south, on the beautiful Playa de Morro Jable and offers visitors a view of the extensive beach with its turquoise-coloured water. Numerous restaurants and cafés line the way and combine Canarian tradition with modern flair.
The village's old harbour, which is still in active use, conveys an air of authenticity and also offers a direct ferry connection to Gran Canaria.
A particular highlight is the Faro de Morro Jable, which stands at the entrance to the village and is surrounded by picturesque salt marshes, the so-called Saladar de Jandía. This fragile ecosystem is known for its high salinity tolerance and is home to specialised plant species such as the sea lavender (Limonium spp.), which only thrives in salty environments. The salt marshes not only provide an aesthetically pleasing backdrop, but are also a valuable habitat for various shorebirds, such as the avocet (Recurvirostra avosetta), which is common here, as well as rare insect species.
Morro Jable is also an ideal starting point for excursions to remote sights such as the wild Playa de Cofete or the mysterious Casa Winter.
