A village full of history and tradition

Tuineje is a tranquil village in the southern part of Fuerteventura that is deeply rooted in the island's agricultural tradition. The village is historically significant, as the battles of Tamasite and El Cuchillete took place here in the 18th century, in which the inhabitants successfully fought against English pirates.

These events are celebrated every year in October during the Fiestas Juradas de San Miguel. These festivities take place over several days and include religious processions, historical re-enactments of the battles as well as traditional music and dancing. A visit to the Museo de las Batallas de Tamasite offers the opportunity to learn more about the historical background and significance of these festivities.

The Iglesia de San Miguel Arcángel, which is dedicated to the patron saint of the village, is another highlight and a testimony to the village's long history.

In Tuineje, visitors will also find numerous opportunities to explore rural life and the traditional architecture of Fuerteventura. The town is also an excellent starting point for discovering the surrounding natural landscapes and lesser-known villages on the island.
