Agriculture, architecture & starry skies
The Molino de Tefía is one of the most impressive windmills in Fuerteventura. It is located in the centre of the island and is a silent witness to the island's agricultural past.
Like many other mills on the island, it was once used to process grain grown in rainy times. A special feature is its construction with a round tower and six large blades - a rather rare design that clearly sets it apart from other windmills on the island.
Today, the carefully restored mill is one of the most famous of its kind and is located in the immediate vicinity of the La Alcogida open-air museum. From its slightly elevated position, there is a wide view over the barren yet fascinating landscape of the centre of the island - characterised by rolling hills, wide plains and the typical earthy colours of Fuerteventura.
Due to the low light pollution, the area is also a favourite place for stargazing.
- RECOMMENDATION
Excursion to Los Molinos
- A visit to the Molino de Tefía can be ideally combined with a detour to the nearby fishing village of Los Molinos. A hike through the green Barranco de los Molinos is particularly worthwhile. The path leads along a small stream, past rock faces, wetlands and birdsong - a real contrast to the otherwise barren landscape of the centre of the island.
- Getting There
By car
- The Molino de Tefía is located in the centre of the island, on the edge of the village of Tefía, between Tindaya and Antigua and is easily accessible via the FV-221.
- Car parking is available in the immediate vicinity of the mill.
